East Nicolaus Stop & Route Changes for Yuba-Sutter Transit's Sacramento Service Effective Immediately

June 23, 2009

Caltrans has opened the new Highway 70 interchange at Nicolaus Avenue resulting in the bypass of the Yuba-Sutter Transit bus stop on "old" Highway 70. This stop has been used by Yuba-Sutter Transit for well over two decades for service to and from downtown Sacramento. In response, Yuba-Sutter Transit's service to East Nicolaus has changed effective immediately.

Yuba-Sutter Transit's long-term plan is to suspend service to East Nicolaus with the completion of the bypass assuming that the new Plumas Lake Park & Ride which is now constructing would already be in service. Since that Yuba County owned and operated facility will not be complete for a couple of months, a temporary solution is necessary to provide a reasonable alternative for the 30 - 40 passengers that now use the East Nicolaus stop each weekday.

Yuba-Sutter Transit will continue to serve East Nicolaus, but the stop will be moved from the fruit stand on "old" Highway 70 to the warehouse on Palm Street immediately behind the fruit stand. This is the same place where passengers are now being dropped off in the afternoon. North and southbound buses will make a short loop from the new Nicolaus Avenue interchange via Willow, Yuba and Palm Streets to access the new stop location. After stopping to pick up or drop off passengers, buses will then turn left on Nicolaus Avenue back to the new interchange.

This temporary change, which is effective immediately, is subject to change as conditions dictate. No changes are being made to the posted schedules at this time.
