Bikes, Buses & You

Take a look at our general guidelines on how to safely and courteously use the bike system-wide.

Bike Racks on Buses

All Yuba-Sutter Transit buses are equipped with bike racks, so you can ride your bike to the bus stop and then take it with you.

Bike Rack Policies

  • Passengers may use bike racks with a paid fare.
  • If racks are full, they must wait for the next bus. Bikes are only allowed inside on the last local fixed‑route bus of the day when the rack is full. Dial‑A‑Ride buses never allow bikes inside.
  • Riders must load, secure, and unload their own bikes.
  • Mopeds, motorized bikes, and bikes with non‑standard dimensions are not allowed on racks.
  • Yuba‑Sutter Transit is not responsible lost, stolen or damaged bikes. If you forget your bike on the rack, call the Administration Office at (530) 634-6880. All unclaimed items are retained by Yuba-Sutter Transit for 30 days.

Loading Your Bike

  • Lower the Rack- If the rack is folded upright, release it by pulling the lever and lowering the rack carefully.
  • Lift- Lift your bicycle onto the rack and place it into an open slot, making sure the front wheel sits in the slot marked for the front tire. Check that your bike is secure and not touching any part of the bus.
  • Secure your Bike- Pull the support arm up and place it over the top of the front tire. The spring mechanism will tighten the arm and hold your bike firmly in place.

Unloading Your Bike

  • Notify the driver- Before exiting, notify the driver that you will be unloading your bike from the front rack.
  • Follow the loading steps in reverse: lower the support arm from the front tire and secure it to the magnet on the rack. Remove your bike, then lift the rack into the upright position if no other bicycles remain. Ensure it locks securely.
  • Signal to the driver when you are finished, then move to the curb. Wait for the bus to depart or walk a safe distance away before riding off.
