Yuba-Sutter Transit Receives $12.71 Million Federal Grant for the New NextGen Transit Facility

December 5, 2025 - Yuba-Sutter Transit is proud to announce that an additional $12.71 million in grant funding was recently awarded towards the development of its new bus operations and maintenance facility, dubbed the "NextGen Transit Facility." The funding comes through the Federal Transit Administration's (FTA) Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program. Yuba-Sutter Transit's NextGen Transit Facility project, anticipated for completion in 2028, is one of six projects across California selected for funding under this highly competitive federal grant program.

Open House and Board Presentation Event

On August 21, 2025, Yuba-Sutter Transit staff and AECOM Technical Services, Inc.—the consulting firm leading the environmental review and preliminary engineering—hosted a public information event and presented updated designs to the Board of Directors for the Next Generation Transit Facility proposed for construction at 6035 Avondale Avenue in Linda.

Attendees learned about the need to replace the current facility to support future service expansion, state regulation requirements, and sustainability goals. The presentation also included visuals of the proposed site features, the need and benefits of a new facility, environmental approvals, state regulation requirements, cost, funding and solar energy features.

 

Yuba-Sutter Transit Moves One Step Closer to a New Facility 

In July 2024, the Yuba-Sutter Transit Board of Directors approved the award of a contract to AECOM Technical Services, Inc. (AECOM) for the environmental review and preliminary engineering of the Next Generation Transit Facility, planned for development on a 19-acre site located at 6035 Avondale Avenue in Linda. AECOM brings extensive project experience, and a thorough understanding of Yuba-Sutter Transit’s needs for a state-of-the-art maintenance, operations and administrative facility. The NextGen Transit Facility project, which is fully funded by a combination of State and Federal grants, will replace the aging and inadequately sized facility currently located at 2100 B Street in Marysville. 

Raise Grant for 2022

Linda Property Purchase Completed  for New Transit Facility 

Yuba-Sutter Transit has officially completed the purchase process for the property located at 6035 Avondale Avenue in Marysville. This is where the new transit facility will be constructed. Board Adopts ZEB Fleet Conversion Policy at July Meeting

On July 15, 2021, the Yuba-Sutter Transit Board of Directors adopted the following policy statement committing to a 100 percent fleet conversion to Zero-Emission Buses (ZEBs) by 2035. This is in advance of the statewide directive to meet this goal by 2040. This focus on meeting or exceeding the state requirement goes hand-in-hand with the process of funding, designing  and building a new zero-emission transit facility by 2025 and working to replace non-ZEB vehicles.

Planning is Underway (October 2020)

Yuba-Sutter Transit received an Adaptation Planning Grant from Caltrans in 2019 to develop the Resilient Next Generation Transit Facility Plan for a replacement maintenance, operation and administration facility. A new location is needed because the current facility in Marysville lacks sufficient capacity to accommodate the infrastructure that will be needed to meet the California requirement that only zero-emission buses be purchased after 2028. In addition, the planned expansion of Highway 70 (B Street) in front of the existing facility may render it useless even earlier. 

Yuba-Sutter Transit is working with the international planning and engineering firm WSP to develop the plan for the Resilient Next Generation Transit Facility. This project began with determining the space needed for the current and future needs of the agency assuming the ultimate transition to a fleet of all zero-emission vehicles. Potential properties were then identified, evaluated and ultimately ranked based on a comprehensive list of factors.

WSP has produced several work products for which public input is now being invited.  The comments received at least through Monday, November 9, 2020, will be considered in the final plan.  The video below describes the overall project while providing a virtual tour of the existing Marysville site along with four of the top ranked sites for the Resilient Next Generation Transit Facility.

WSP has also developed two working papers as part of this ongoing project.  Below is a link to Working Paper #1--Site Selection which details how the original 16 candidate sites were reduced to the 10 sites that were analyzed in detail and why the top sites that were featured in the video were selected. 

Below is a link to Working Paper #2--Final Design Criteria which contains the space needs assessment and detailed descriptions of each room and space including several alternative site layouts for each of the tops sites that would meet Yuba-Sutter Transit's anticipated maintenance, operations and administration needs of the future.

The next steps pf this project include the development of more detailed site plans and construction cost estimates for the top three sites.  Once the preferred conceptual plans are selected, the last step will be the development of a financial plan to complete the project which will be incorporated into the final project report for presentation to the Board in Spring 2021.  The final plan will form the foundation of the effort to secure both the property and the necessary funding to advance the facility project to reality.
